The LiA population has a number of children who have not had the opportunity to learn positive parenting skills. This particular population may lack in empathy/compassion, work and play skills, education opportunities and realities of care giving & parenting responsibilities; emotional and financial. Without considerable intervention the lack of knowledge about how to be a healthy parent, i.e., companionship, friendship, coaching and providing care for a child will be passed on to the next generation (see Pet Parenting). Reseach (Hackett & Uprichard, 2007) supports the importance of teaching healthy care of animals as a strong indicator for future personality development.
